Apple says “Welcome home”: an October 13 smart-home event built around the new Siri AI
Apple’s marketing chief teased an October 13 “Welcome home” event on Thursday, with media invited to an “Apple Experience” in New York — where the long-delayed smart home hub, a refreshed HomePod mini and a new Apple TV 4K are all expected to run the new Siri AI.
Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak announced Thursday that the company will hold a product launch on Tuesday, October 13 under the tagline “Welcome home” — the clearest signal yet that the long-delayed smart home hub built around the new Siri AI is about to go public.
Joswiak posted a 17-second teaser on X showing hands embroidering the company’s retro six-colour rainbow logo into fabric, stitch by stitch, ending with the words “Welcome home. October 13.” At the same time, media invitations went out for an “Apple Experience” in Tribeca, New York, at 9:00 a.m. ET on October 13 — 6 a.m. PT. Apple has not announced a livestream or public presentation time; as of Thursday morning, the company’s own Apple Events page still listed September’s iPhone event, with no October entry. Apple used the same “Apple Experience” label for its smaller press gatherings in New York, London and Shanghai in March 2026.
The hub is the headline
Reporting from MacRumors and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman centers on three home products that were delayed in part while Apple waited on a more capable Siri. The centerpiece is the rumored smart home hub — a cross between an iPad and a HomePod with a roughly six-to-seven-inch square display, designed as a multi-person household device. Voice is the primary interface, with the new Siri AI handling lights and accessories, FaceTime calls, video, news, weather and calendar items.
Two form factors are expected: a tabletop model, known internally as J490, that positions the screen on a half-dome speaker base reminiscent of the iMac G4 with an arm that lets users tilt the display, and a wall-mountable version, J491, that affixes with a new magnetic system. A camera and presence sensor are said to recognize who is in the room and surface a personalized layout of widgets and apps, with a guest mode to keep personal information hidden. The hub reportedly runs an entirely new operating system based on tvOS, with an interface blending tvOS, watchOS and iOS — plus FaceTime videoconferencing, home-security monitoring and an intercom system for households with several Apple devices. Pricing has been floated around $350, though the figure is unconfirmed.
First refreshes in years for mini and Apple TV
Alongside the hub, Apple is expected to update two products that have gone years without meaningful changes. The HomePod mini would get its first hardware refresh since 2020: new colors, with green and pink reported, an N1 networking chip for improved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and a faster S-series processor built to run Siri AI. The Apple TV 4K would get its first update since 2022: an A19 or A19 Pro chip, a RAM upgrade, the same N1 chip, and an upgraded Siri Remote. Code spotted in the tvOS 27.2 beta suggests the new box could pair with up to four HomePods as a surround system. An OLED iPad mini with a faster chip could also appear.
Why it took this long
The lineup was originally planned for 2024, according to Bloomberg’s reporting, but slipped while Apple worked on the new Siri — which entered beta in September on existing Apple devices. The date itself was reported in late September, and Apple’s home ambitions extend beyond its own hardware: The Apple Post recently reported Apple is working with LG on home accessories including a smart lock, thermostat and security cameras.
What to watch on Tuesday
The “Welcome home” tagline leaves little room for doubt about the theme, but plenty is still unconfirmed: whether the event includes a streamed keynote or is press-only hands-on time, whether the hub ships with full Siri AI features or in beta, and what it will actually cost. Apple envisions buyers installing a hub in several rooms — which makes the price, more than the spec sheet, the detail to watch. This page will update as the news lands.
