NetBox goes native inside NVIDIA’s AI datacenter OS: partnerships with NVIDIA and Grafana, plus an MCP server for agents
At its first NetBox Evolve conference today, NetBox Labs announced partnerships with NVIDIA and Grafana Labs — making its open-source infrastructure record native to NVIDIA’s AI datacenter software and bringing live infrastructure context into Grafana dashboards — alongside a generally available MCP server that lets AI agents query and change infrastructure in plain language.
NetBox Labs picked the Kennedy Space Center to make its case: at the first-ever NetBox Evolve conference on October 13, the company behind NetBox — the open-source system of record for networks and datacenters — announced partnerships with NVIDIA and Grafana Labs plus a batch of platform additions, positioning itself as the “central intelligence layer” for AI datacenter and enterprise infrastructure buildouts.
NetBox is already the quiet standard in the AI infrastructure rush: the company says more than 90% of the top neoclouds use it to design and scale AI datacenters, with customers including Arm, J.P. Morgan Chase, CoreWeave and Kaiser Permanente — and it expects NetBox to power more than 100 GW of AI datacenter capacity by 2030.
Native to NVIDIA DSX OS
NVIDIA has made NetBox a native source of truth for NVIDIA Configuration Manager (NVCM), the network orchestration component of NVIDIA DSX OS. In practice, that means network configuration in DSX OS comes straight from the NetBox records that AI infrastructure teams already keep — NetBox supplies the central data driving automation of configuration across NVIDIA-native cluster fabrics, placing it at the center of how large-scale AI deployments are designed, provisioned and operated.
Context for every Grafana dashboard
Grafana Labs and NetBox Labs released an official, free, open-source NetBox plugin in the Grafana catalog. It carries live NetBox context — site, role, tenant, rack, owner, lifecycle — into Grafana dashboards and alerts, attaching meaning to metrics that otherwise just show what infrastructure is doing, not what it is. NetBox Labs says the plugin requires no pipeline changes, avoids stale labels and adds no metric cost. Separately, its open-source Orb platform now feeds network flow and packet telemetry into Grafana Cloud. “Context is what separates a wall of metrics from answers and action,” said Ash Mazhari, VP of Corporate Development at Grafana Labs.
An MCP server and pre-built agents
The announcements also lean hard into agentic operations. The NetBox Platform MCP Server is now generally available: teams can bring infrastructure context to their own agents, which query and change infrastructure across the whole platform in plain language, with nothing to host. NetBox Agents gains new pre-built agents — for change request review, lifecycle and version compliance, data quality management and data import — in public preview. Per Gartner, by 2030 half of organizations will use agentic NetOps with minimal human involvement, up from nearly 0% in 2026.
On the design side, NetBox Designs (public preview) offers reusable templates for rapid infrastructure design, with NetBox Asset Lifecycle carrying planned objects from bill of materials through purchase order, shipment and installation. NetBox Analytics adds ready-made dashboards and goes generally available next month alongside NetBox Visual Explorer; integrations with Arista CloudVision, AWS VPC IPAM and Cisco Nexus Dashboard go GA this month, with Palo Alto Panorama, Tenable and Kubernetes entering public preview later in October.
Why it matters
AI datacenters are being built at a speed that breaks hand-maintained spreadsheets. “Configuration, observability and automation all depend on having an authoritative record of what infrastructure should exist and how it should be operating,” said CEO and cofounder Kris Beevers. “That record is NetBox.” With the open-source project trusted by 10,000+ organizations for over a decade, today’s moves wire that record directly into the two environments where AI infrastructure lives day to day — NVIDIA’s cluster fabric and Grafana’s dashboards — and hand agents a sanctioned way to act on it.
