Verso raises $6M to replace focus groups with AI-moderated interviews — 10x faster, quarter of the cost

Paris-based Verso has raised $6 million in seed funding, led by Angular Ventures, to turn consumer research into an AI-run pipeline: AI-moderated video interviews, automated analysis, and a living database of consumer personas. The company says the approach delivers insights about ten times faster and at a quarter of the cost of traditional agencies — and more than 30 companies, including Ferrero, Orange and Michelin, already use the platform.

Market research is a slow, expensive business: recruit participants, run interviews, spend weeks on analysis, and watch the findings die in a slide deck. Paris startup Verso wants to replace that cycle with an AI interviewer. The company raised $6 million in seed funding on Thursday to scale an AI-powered consumer intelligence platform that conducts video interviews, analyzes them, and keeps a continuously updated picture of what customers think.

The round

The round was led by Angular Ventures, with participation from 100in, Kima Ventures, Olympe Capital, Sharpstone Capital and a group of business angels. Verso is also backed by startup studio Hexa, according to The SaaS News.

Verso says it will use the money to fold in additional consumer data sources, build interfaces so AI agents can query its knowledge base, and expand beyond France into markets including the United States. The company also plans to hire across engineering and go-to-market roles.

An AI that runs the whole interview

Verso was co-founded by Lydia Bellahouel (CEO) and Camille Epitalon (CTO) to make consumer insights available at the moment business decisions get made. The platform runs the research process end to end: study design, participant recruitment, AI-led one-on-one video or voice interviews that adapt in real time — probing and following up on what each respondent actually says — and multimodal analysis that captures emotional nuance, not just transcripts.

Instead of delivering one static report per study, Verso builds dynamic consumer personae that are enriched with every new study, so teams can compare segments and track how attitudes shift over time. A study launches in minutes; structured insights typically arrive within 24 to 72 hours, per the company.

Bellahouel told tech.eu the idea came from watching insights fail to reach decision-makers: “At BCG, I saw large groups miss out on hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue each year because they couldn’t access usable consumer insights when making decisions.”

Why it matters

Qualitative research has been one of the last holdouts of manual work in the insights stack. Verso’s pitch is scale: the company claims its platform reaches insights about ten times faster and at a quarter of the cost of a traditional research agency, while speaking to around 15 times more consumers. Those figures are company-reported — and the real test is quality. An AI interviewer is only as good as its probing; adaptive follow-ups can surface depth, or they can generate confident noise.

The more interesting bet is architectural. Verso says it is building its knowledge layer not just for business teams but for the AI agents in their workflows — positioning its consumer database as a data source for agentic systems doing initial analysis inside existing tools. If agents become the main consumers of business intelligence, a continuously updated consumer truth beats a stack of one-off reports.

What to watch

The next milestones are measurable: whether the US expansion lands enterprise logos beyond the Ferrero, Orange and Michelin reference set, and whether the agent-access interfaces — the piece that turns a research tool into infrastructure — actually ship. In a market where “10x faster” claims are easy and quality is hard, the audit trail will be customer renewals, not press quotes. Startup.eu lists the seed at $6 million, led by Angular Ventures.
