The integration

The launch is built on the Model Context Protocol, the open standard for connecting AI applications to external tools and data, and it brings AI-powered interaction directly into the trading environment. Eligible Axi clients connect their active MT5 accounts through Claude.ai by adding the Axi connector, completing the setup process, and authorizing access with their secure Axi login credentials — no new app to install, just a chat window that can see the account.

Once linked, supported account information and trading functions are exposed conversationally: ask about a position, pull up live prices, change a risk parameter, or send an order. As Axi's Global Head of Sales Santiago Vazquez-Munoz put it, "AI is creating new opportunities to rethink how traders interact with technology," by connecting Claude directly with eligible MT5 accounts.

The permissions question

Handing order-entry access to a chatbot is the sensitive part, and the release is careful on this point: the integration does not eliminate the risks associated with trading. Clients remain responsible for their trading decisions, and should understand the permissions granted when connecting their accounts. An AI that can trade on your behalf is exactly as trustworthy as the guardrails around what it's allowed to touch — and Axi is putting the permission-reading burden squarely on the user.

The release frames the move as part of a broader exploration: the company says it's committed to finding "innovative technology that gives clients new ways to access their trading information and manage their accounts." Availability is limited for now — the Axi MCP integration is open only to eligible Axi clients with an active MT5 account.

Why it matters

Axi is a global online FX and CFD broker serving thousands of clients across more than 100 countries, offering OTC derivatives across Forex, shares, gold, oil, and more. A broker of that scale plugging client funds into an AI chat interface is a sign of where retail trading infrastructure is heading: MCP is quietly becoming the standard rail between customer accounts and AI agents. We saw a sibling move last month when HSBC plugged bank accounts into AI tools via MCP — now it's the brokerage account's turn.

The open question is whether traders actually want their trading terminal to be a chatbot. Conversational interfaces are great at answering questions; they're a dicier fit for actions that cost real money in milliseconds. If Axi's connector works as advertised, the next differentiator won't be spreads or leverage — it'll be how well the AI understands what you meant before it hits buy.
