Agentic Checkout: Constructor embeds Stripe in its AI shopping agents — buy inside the conversation
Constructor announced Agentic Checkout on October 5: Stripe — including Link — now works inside its onsite AI shopping agents, so shoppers can discover products, ask questions, and pay without leaving the conversation.

Constructor today announced Agentic Checkout, embedding Stripe payments directly inside its onsite AI shopping agents — so a shopper can discover products, ask questions, get personalized recommendations, and pay, all within a single conversation. The company claims it is the first to offer Stripe-powered checkout directly inside an onsite shopping agent. Unite.AI and the Retail Technology Innovation Hub covered the launch on October 5.
Constructor's framing is about a gap in agentic shopping: today's tools focus on discovery, then dump the shopper back into a traditional, disconnected checkout flow at the moment they're ready to buy. Agentic Checkout closes that loop. Citing a Constructor and Shopify report, the company says four in ten shoppers have already used agentic shopping tools.
From discovery to payment in one conversation
The announcement walks through a three-stage journey. In discovery, a shopper asks broad, need-based questions — Constructor gives examples like what to wear to an outdoor fall wedding or planning quick, healthy dinners for a family — and gets personalized, in-stock recommendations. As choices narrow, the shopper asks product-specific questions: does this dress run true to size, are these tortillas gluten-free. Then, when ready, they check out and pay with Stripe without leaving the agent.
Payments run through Stripe, including Link, Stripe's digital wallet, alongside other payment methods. The release cites Stripe data: Link is used by 250 million customers, 80% of them used a chat-based agent in the past month, and half use AI for shopping research at least monthly. Constructor says the capability serves both human shoppers and AI agents.

Where it lands
Agentic Checkout is available globally in two products: the AI Shopping Agent, which lets shoppers describe needs in natural language and get guidance based on context, history, and intent, and the AI Product Insights Agent, which answers product questions directly on product detail pages. Constructor's product page says Stripe Checkout and Pay with Link are embedded in the shopping-agent conversation and in the Product Insights Agent chat — "now it closes the deal with Stripe Checkout and Pay with Link embedded in the chat." More touchpoints across retailers' digital properties arrive later this year.
Under the hood, the agents run on what Constructor calls its Commerce Reasoning Engine, learning from each shopper's behavior across a retailer's channels — continuously trained through a feedback loop from clickstream data, powered by transformers and large language models. Constructor, which powers search and product discovery for retailers including Sephora, The Very Group, Monica Vinader, White Stuff, and Furniture Village, reports that the number of companies deploying its AI agents increased 900% over the past year.

Why checkout is the prize
"The promise of agentic commerce is that a shopper can express what they need and AI can help them every step of the way," CEO and co-founder Eli Finkelshteyn said in the announcement. "Constructor has spent years focused on improving the discovery experience... while Stripe has built world class payments infrastructure... Together, we're making agentic shopping more complete for consumers and more valuable for retailers."
The strategic read is simple: checkout is the money moment. Whoever owns it owns the transaction data and the user experience at peak purchase intent. Moving payment into the agent removes the drop-off point where discovery tools hand the shopper to a separate cart — and, not coincidentally, the wallet that fills it becomes the new search-ad slot. Constructor's bet is that retailers want this on their own sites, not inside someone else's chat app or browser agent, so the brand stays in the loop. For retailers already on the platform, enabling it means updating Constructor's UI library and adding Stripe credentials; those not on Stripe can enable it without touching their existing payment setup elsewhere.
