ONLYOFFICE 10.0 ships AI inside every editor — plus free MCP-powered AI Agents
ONLYOFFICE 10.0 embeds context-aware AI tools directly into every editor — documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDFs — and ships four free modular apps, including MCP-powered AI Agents, all under AGPL v3.
Open-source office suite ONLYOFFICE shipped its major autumn update today: version 10.0 embeds context-aware AI tools directly into every editor — documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDFs — and adds four free modular apps, including an AI Agents app powered by MCP servers, the company announced via PR Newswire. With over 21 million users worldwide, ONLYOFFICE is the largest open-source challenger to proprietary office suites.
AI that lives inside the file
The centerpiece is a dedicated AI tab with built-in chat, now embedded in each editor. Teams can draft, summarize, translate, clean, and format text without leaving the file or copying content into a separate tool. The pitch: legal teams summarize contracts, analysts generate forecasts or Pivot Tables, and managers turn rough ideas into structured presentations — all in place. Ready-made prompts, custom AI actions, assistants, and saved prompts round out the automation story.
Organizations get to choose how AI is used: models can be picked based on quality, speed, and cost. Cloud users enable ONLYOFFICE AI via OpenRouter; server deployments can connect any model, including local ones — and sensitive data stays within the customer's own infrastructure.
Four free apps, powered by MCP
The release introduces four free apps that extend ONLYOFFICE Docs under AGPL v3: AI Agents, Forms, Files, and Rooms. The AI Agents app automates workspace tasks with intelligent search, a personalized knowledge base, and extended reasoning — powered by MCP servers, the emerging standard for connecting AI models to tools and data. Forms streamlines data collection and analysis of responses; Files centralizes document storage with access controls; Rooms supports secure collaboration, including virtual data rooms for confidential content. In the cloud the apps are on by default; on servers a single command installs them.
What else changed
Beyond AI, the update bundles around 50 new features and more than 1,000 fixes across the online, desktop, and mobile editors. The PDF editor gains metadata removal, customizable annotations, automatic table recognition, and reusable signatures. Document co-authors can now follow each other's cursor in real time; spreadsheets run faster with optimized functions and formula hints; presentations gain new view modes and GIF or video export for slides. The release also fixes 35 vulnerabilities, and the free iOS and Android apps add an AI assistant with new providers — Grok and DeepSeek — plus AI AutoFill for forms and voice input. In Desktop Community, AI tools arrive as an optional add-on.
Why this matters
The strategy is a direct open-source answer to the AI-in-every-app playbook of the big proprietary suites, with two structural differences: the AI runs where the documents live — including fully local models on self-hosted servers — and the agent stack is open source under AGPL v3, with MCP servers as the extension mechanism. For teams that chose ONLYOFFICE to avoid proprietary lock-in, AI assistance no longer has to mean shipping their documents to someone else's cloud.
