Claude Personal Finance: Anthropic lets Claude read your bank accounts — but not move a dollar
Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude on November 5, 2026, a beta that connects your bank and card accounts through Plaid so Claude can answer money questions from your real balances and transactions — but the access is strictly read-only: it can’t move, manage or invest a dollar.
- Who: Anthropic, the maker of Claude.
- What: Personal Finance in Claude — a beta that connects bank and card accounts through Plaid so Claude can answer questions about balances, spending and bills in everyday language.
- When: Announced November 5, 2026; rolling out in beta this week in the US.
- Who gets it: Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US; Free, Team and Enterprise plans are excluded. Up to 16 bank accounts can be linked.
- The guardrail: Read-only access — Claude can’t move, manage or invest money, and the feature isn’t designed to give investment advice.
- What Claude sees: The bank’s name, each account’s name, type and last four digits, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transactions. Chats in the Personal Finance hub aren’t used to train models.

Anthropic announced Personal Finance in Claude on November 5, 2026, a beta that plugs Claude into your bank and card accounts through Plaid and lets you ask about your money in plain language. The pitch is simple: instead of opening every banking app and doing the math yourself, ask Claude — and get answers built from your own balances and transactions.
The boundary is the story. Access is read-only: Personal Finance can’t move, manage or invest your money, and Anthropic says it isn’t designed to give investment advice. You connect an account by signing in to your bank yourself through Plaid, the service that links apps to banks — Claude never asks for, or sees, your bank password. You can unlink an account at any time, and once you do, Claude can no longer see its data.
What Claude does with two years of transactions
For each account you choose to connect, Claude can see the bank’s name, the account’s name, type and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transactions. Anthropic’s worked example shows what that adds up to: ask “Where did my money go this month?” and Claude totals $4,309.37 in spending, with more than half going to rent and utilities and $1,024.51 to food and drink — then tells you $1,393.22 will be left before payday, after four payments come out of checking.
It goes further than a monthly total. Claude can flag what’s easy to miss — charges that hit twice, unexpected fees, a bill that’s crept up all year — and answer bigger questions, like whether you’re spending more than you make, or what your APR has cost you this year. Ask for a weekly spending chart, a calendar of what’s due, or a dashboard of the numbers you choose, and Claude builds one you can keep adjusting.

Who gets it, and where
Personal Finance starts rolling out in beta this week in the US, on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans — the paid tiers. Free, Team and Enterprise plans are excluded, and the rollout is gradual, so a paid subscription doesn’t guarantee immediate access. It works on the web, Claude Desktop, and the iOS and Android apps, and you can link up to 16 bank accounts. The Ultra tier is the newest of the three: Anthropic dropped its five-hour usage limit last week while keeping the $200 price.
The privacy terms are spelled out in the announcement itself. Chats inside the Personal Finance hub aren’t used to train Anthropic’s models — though anything you share with Claude outside the hub falls under your normal privacy settings. And Anthropic prints its own caveat: “Claude can make mistakes in its answers, so ask which transactions are behind a number, and check important figures with your bank.”
Playing catch-up — deliberately
Claude is late to this particular party. ChatGPT introduced similar Plaid-connected personal-finance tools in May, and Anthropic’s move lands about six months later on the same connector. The difference is positioning: where others frame the feature as a step toward an AI that manages your money, Anthropic frames it as a step toward understanding it — and says the next step is Claude working alongside the licensed professionals and regulated firms people already trust for big money decisions. It’s inviting banks, wealth managers and financial services companies to help shape that.
The finance push fits a wider pattern this year: Anthropic launched Claude for Legal and Claude for Financial Services earlier in 2026, and Claude has been moving into money tasks through other routes too — Axi plugged MetaTrader 5 accounts into Claude via MCP in October. For anyone uneasy about handing two years of transactions to a chatbot at all, the self-hosted route still exists: Aurelio runs a private AI wealth manager on your own machine.
Why it matters
The obvious question is trust: is read-only access enough reassurance to hand a chatbot your bank history? Anthropic’s answer is a deliberately narrow feature — no ads, no sponsored recommendations, no credit cards, loans or savings accounts of its own — built so the only thing Claude can do with your money is explain it. Whether users buy that bargain will show in the rollout: how fast the beta spreads, whether the read-only line holds when users ask for more, and when — or whether — it leaves the US.
